Chiral brainteaser

A popular thing among students when asked how to identify a chiral molecule is to reply “if you have a carbon with four different groups on it”.

Are they right?

  1. (in case you’re wondering Ts is a ‘tosyl’ group -S(=O)2-C6H4-CH3
    the methyl group being directly opposite the -SO2 group on the ring)
